The Australian education system is considered one of the best in in the world. From grade school right up to doctorate studies, Australia has an outstanding educational reputation. In each state, the Australian government monitors regulations whilst also providing funds for public schools. As well as this, each state has both private and public schools to choose from. Although there are a wide selection of schools, the curriculum is universal for all institutions nationally. This helps students to remain on the same educational path, providing them with equal opportunities for tertiary studies later in life.
Australia’s tertiary education system can be generally divided into three broad areas – ELICOS, VET and Higher Education. VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses from TAFE (Technical and Further Education) are popular choices for school leavers. These particular types of courses prepare students for work in trades, as well as other specific professions – such as finance. VET curriculum in each state follows a national standard so that the system and its syllabus can be transferable among all the states. This helps the students keep on track in case they ever change their location.
There are more than 40 universities in Australia which are divided among the states and territories: Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. Furthermore, a student can pursue Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate programs.
University level education deepens students’ knowledge, allowing them to gain skills to contribute towards a well-paying job. Since Australian education meets international standards, these qualifications are valid throughout the world. In fact, international employers often specifically seek out Australian-certified students, as they are believed to have a thorough knowledge based on their career field.
